I did a lot of research on electronic bibles (As I do anything) before I landed on this one. I really like the fact it has a dictionary and a bible. It’s not real clear from the item description that it is actually a NIV bible also and not just a dictionary. You can also upload other versions of the bible and more to it. You can change the font size and contrast to taste. It’s not overly big, I saw another Franklin that I liked and it did pretty much the same thing this one does but I think it was bigger and wouldn’t really fit into your pocket. This one is just the right size which makes it more versatile.It is very user friendly also, you can just maneuver all around the thing and never lose your spot. You’re reading a passage want to know a definition of one word in the passage, highlight it and check it out and then one push of a button and your back to the passage you were reading. It’s one of those items that who ever designed had common sense. Unlike the guy who designed Microsoft word!

I found the unit to be not as user friendly as I expected. It’s extremely hard to read the screen, even with largest print settings. I would not recommend this product to others and I would have purchased a different model had I known how poor the screen quality is. It may be more user friendly, if you could see what you’re doing.

Customer Review: Warning — No voice function
I can’t really review this item cause I don’t own it. I just wanted shoppers to know that this dictionary does NOT have a voice function even thought its name includes the word, “speaking”. I almost purchased this item, but while I was searching for other user’s reviews on different websites, I noticed on the spec that it has no voice function. (on the Amazon product details, it’s not really clear) I confirmed that on their website ([...]). So, if you are looking for a real “speaking” dictionary, this is not your choice. This is a “non-speaking” dictionary.

Customer Review: Usefullish
This card fits into several of the Franklin range I believe , but I used mine in the MWD-1450.(Since they seem to change the numbers for different markets ,this might not be much help not you.)The contents of the card were very useful and I used it a lot in France when travelling. Particularly useful is the fact that you can search ALL the conjugated forms and get back to the root verb. There are also a variety of idiomatic phrases which appear with the key words. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any other way to search for these so it is a bit of a lucky dip. You can store these and favourite words in the memory , however this vanishes when you change the battery. There may be a way to avoid this (perhaps changing the battery in under 0.5 seconds!)but I have not found it.
Overall I found the contents excellent but was less impressed with the device that the card runs in. Useful nevertheless.

I bought the Franklin MWD-450 for my 13 year old daughter to use at school for Language class vocabulary. She loves it. No need to wait for a dictionary or for a computer station to open up. With 5 computer stations in the class, it is time comsuming and most students wind up with homework. A couple of her friends have now purchased the Franklin MWD-450 as well to use in class.

Customer Review: There Are Better Alternatives
I thought this was going to be a great addition to my PC. Man was I wrong. It was a waste of money. The instructions were not clear. The installation did not go smoothly, and I ended up having to call technical support twice. Only after finally getting this installed did I realize it isn’t interactive. What a disappointment. The way this works, if you suspect you’ve misspelled a word, you can go to the dictionary and look it up. That’s old school. I am mostly a Macintosh user, and I was expecting something as easy to install as Spell Catcher from Rainmaker Research [...] Disappointed, I found that Rainmaker also has a Spell Catcher for the PC. It was an easy choice to make that purchase. The USB Merriam-Webster Disctionary/Thesaurus now makes a nice do-dad for a key chain. Maybe I can find someone who’ll purchase it. Do yourself a favor… pass this one up… there are better alternatives.

It is flimsy and hard to strike the keys. What is the purpose of the ribbon?? It is a pain! The shape is too boxy and hard to handle when you are trying to juggle your book and the dictionary. The design falls far short.
Customer Review: An Excellent Writing And Reading Tool
I first saw this wonderful tool Franklin Compact Oxford English Dictionary just a few years ago, but never gave it much thought, for I believed that it was too good to be true. Therefore, another Franklin Dictionary that I still have and use but is no longer available was purchased for me as a gift. I still use it and love it. However, not purchasing the Oxford was a decision remised and with great lamentation. Fortunately, while on a recent trip I found this wonderful tool in a local bookstore. Simply put, I love this little dictionary! Its flat silhouette is just right for using it as a bookmark or attaching it to the end of my books for future reference. It is a wonderful tool to have on the plane, in bed, and even in my private “library”, where I do a lot of reading. Regarding its flat buttons, one only needs to use a pencil’s eraser instead as one’s finger. I use the eraser of my mechanical pencils. Have the patience to take the time to find your way when pressing the flat buttons of your Oxford. You will then love using repeatedly. The word list has been a great help for the betterment of my vocabulary arsenal, which is extremely week. I am very partial toward Oxford dictionaries, therefore, I am very happy that Franklin has adopted this delightful little unit for those of us who need all the help we can get while attempting to become proficient avid readers.
