Customer Review: There Are Better Alternatives
I thought this was going to be a great addition to my PC. Man was I wrong. It was a waste of money. The instructions were not clear. The installation did not go smoothly, and I ended up having to call technical support twice. Only after finally getting this installed did I realize it isn’t interactive. What a disappointment. The way this works, if you suspect you’ve misspelled a word, you can go to the dictionary and look it up. That’s old school. I am mostly a Macintosh user, and I was expecting something as easy to install as Spell Catcher from Rainmaker Research [...] Disappointed, I found that Rainmaker also has a Spell Catcher for the PC. It was an easy choice to make that purchase. The USB Merriam-Webster Disctionary/Thesaurus now makes a nice do-dad for a key chain. Maybe I can find someone who’ll purchase it. Do yourself a favor… pass this one up… there are better alternatives.

Franklin Compact Oxford English Dictionary Customer Review: Flimsy
It is flimsy and hard to strike the keys. What is the purpose of the ribbon?? It is a pain! The shape is too boxy and hard to handle when you are trying to juggle your book and the dictionary. The design falls far short.
Customer Review: An Excellent Writing And Reading Tool
I first saw this wonderful tool Franklin Compact Oxford English Dictionary just a few years ago, but never gave it much thought, for I believed that it was too good to be true. Therefore, another Franklin Dictionary that I still have and use but is no longer available was purchased for me as a gift. I still use it and love it. However, not purchasing the Oxford was a decision remised and with great lamentation. Fortunately, while on a recent trip I found this wonderful tool in a local bookstore. Simply put, I love this little dictionary! Its flat silhouette is just right for using it as a bookmark or attaching it to the end of my books for future reference. It is a wonderful tool to have on the plane, in bed, and even in my private “library”, where I do a lot of reading. Regarding its flat buttons, one only needs to use a pencil’s eraser instead as one’s finger. I use the eraser of my mechanical pencils. Have the patience to take the time to find your way when pressing the flat buttons of your Oxford. You will then love using repeatedly. The word list has been a great help for the betterment of my vocabulary arsenal, which is extremely week. I am very partial toward Oxford dictionaries, therefore, I am very happy that Franklin has adopted this delightful little unit for those of us who need all the help we can get while attempting to become proficient avid readers. Customer Review: Good Product ; Get Free shipping
It’s a good and convenient product for my Franklin SCD-1870. However, it would be better if it had come with some type of back cover/case for the cartridge for when it’s not installed in the SCD-1870. Having back covers/cases for the cartridges would prevent scratches or dirt from getting on the exposed contacts when lugging them around while traveling (we’re not even supposed to touch the metal contacts with our statically charged fingers).

Customer Review: Nice for the price
I read some of the other reviews and one must consider the price of an item. This item may not be th greatest, but it is inexpensive. In my experience with this item, it is a worthwhile small investment. I have had mine for a couple years and use it regularly. I am considering getting a model that has more info and options on it. Overall this is a good model. Take care.

Customer Review: What’s with the Tiny Screen Size!
I have a Franklin’s SCD-1870, and have purchased 3 dictionary bookman cards for it–German, Italian, and Spanish (speaking). Out of these 3 expansion cards, this Spanish card is the worst (the German one has the best features & tools)–other than that it’s a limited version, all the available text is readable only in a tiny 3/8 inch by 1 3/4 inch rectangle, which leaves more than 2/3 of useable screen blank. In addition, even though I was initially excited about having another “speaking” dictionary card, this card’s “speech” is not as clear as the English dictionary “speak” function on my SCD-1870.

I love Palm Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and Franklin Thesaurus; it is the perfect tool to have for tech savey people like myself who do alot of typing, weither it be an email or typing a letter. Is easy to load on to most PDA’s, easy use, and most importantly a big help! If you have a PDA, and an SD card slot; this is a must have!

This thing is great! It comes in real handy when there’s no internet connection. The only bad thing is that I also have the encyclopedia. The format doesn’t allow you to copy and paste both books on a separate SD card, so you have to keep them both with you.

I didn’t want a gameboy — I wanted a dictionary. Where are the words?? The ribbon keeps getting tangled and the thing keeps sliding out of my book. I am sorry I bought it.
