Customer Review: I was disappointed
Franklin Merriam-Webster ((Speaking)) Spanish-English Dictionary (BES-1850). I really did not test it’s functionality. From that stand point it might be fabulous but the fact that I could not read the display screen was sufficient for me to return the device. The letters are blue, the backround is light green. Even after adjusting the resolution I had problems reading the small letters. If you do not have perfect vision I would not recommend this unit.

Great translator with great features but the sound is so low it is useless. I still love it. Also really wish it was backlit.

It serves its purpose well, but the sound is quite soft; it was necessary to use headphones. Otherwise, it has been helpful for the person who received it as a gift, someone with no background in Spanish, to learn enough key words and phrases for a vacation to an area where very little English is spoken.

Customer Review: Needs improvement
No protective cover and obviously most people have the same sound problem with it. It makes a noise while pronouncing a word, specially at a higher volume.

Customer Review: Real Handy Tool To Have!
I purchased this to keep handy for those “dorey” moments when I can’t remember how to spell ‘go’. I find this little speller to be a great little tool to have. I use it frequently and would recommend it to all. The keyboard is nice size and the lcd is actually readable; unlike some that are so small you can’t see the letters. It’s a simple and basic unit that is really fun to use for kids and for adults (btw, I am a grandmother, not a kid). I like it a lot but, I do not play the games or use the calculator so cannot comment on that area.
Customer Review: Lid Broke Off Day One!
I did my homework on this one. I read the previous post about the lid being flimsy, so I was very careful when I recieved the item and snapped the lid on. It went on, then once it was opened the lid came right off, so I snapped it back on and noticed the little plastic piece that holds the lid on was snapped off. Mind you there are only 2 little plastic knobs for the lid, one on each side. If one side doesn’t have it, then the lid won’t stay on. My son was so excited to finally get it, that I figured hey it will be fine without the flimsy lid.(and yes the lid is a very thin plastic) In hindsight I should have sent it back right then and there, but in reading the previous post they said that their kids used it just fine without the lid. Today is day 2, my son came home with it in his backpack went to use it for his homework and the screen was cracked!(obviously from not having the lid and a book or something heavy smashing it) He was so bummed! I was so bummed, and now I kick myself for not sending the darn thing back as soon as the lid broke off right out of the box!
On the bright side he really used it, and I loved not havng to spell every word for him. Now if I can just find one that has a quality hard lid that doesn’t break off! I’m sure the spelling/dictionary/games are all the same, but the trick is finding one that is well made!

On the whole, I like this product.

Definitions and conjugations are useful.

I have found that not all common words are in it.

It is compact and easy to carry.

The instructions say that if the battery is not changed quickly,information I have input will be lost. I have not had the opportunity to test this, but it seems to be a disadvantage.

Customer Review: Good dictionary, but has some problems.
I bought this dictionary a couple of days ago and it is already broken. The problem is that it restarts by itself and erases all the user memory randomly, from time to time, for no apparent reason. I am going to return it and get a replacement. Other than that, the dictionary is good, but sometimes is a little slow. I would buy the Sharp dictionary, but it is two times as expensive and is not worth it.
